Dancin’ Newz – August 2008 Issue

NEXT CHAPTER DANCE:

Saturday, Sept. 20 (THIRD SATURDAY)

7:00 – 11:00pm. Note: this dance is on the third Sat. to support the Galaxy Dance Festival, Sept. 12-14.

Arthur Murray Studio - Phoenix, 1210 E. Indian School Rd. Cross street 12^th St. Parking behind the bldg.

Class in Cha Cha included at 7:15, taught by guest instructor, Robert Bryant (www.bryantcruises.com)

Performances, light refreshments, mixers, dance hosts.

Please, no chewing gum or food on the dance floor.

CHAPTER ACTIVITY UPDATES:

Board Elections: Oct. 15

Members, if you wish to run for a board position, please be sure to get your Call for Nominations and related material mailed in to the Election Committee by the deadline of Sept. 1 so you can have your name placed on the election ballot. This is for a two-year term, beginning Jan. 1, 2009.

If you’re considering running for a board position, you will need to attend a board meeting on either Sunday, Aug. 10 or Oct. 12, 4:30pm at the Claim Jumpers Restaurant on Shea Blvd, Scottsdale. Or, if you just want to see what it’s all about, please feel free to join us. Zip me a quick email to RSVP if you’d like to attend.

Black Tie Event: Sat., Oct. 25

Admission Fees: $35 for members; $45 for non-members of USA Dance.

Purchase Info: Advance admission sales for MEMBERS ONLY will be available through the month of August. Then, admission sales will open to everyone on September 1. Make checks payable to “USA Dance, #4033”and mail to registrar Sherry Parmon, 956 W. Citrus Way, Chandler, AZ 85248. Sherry needs you to: list your member number, include your email address for purchase confirmation, and note any dietary needs. Any questions, call Sherry at 480-857-4955.

Location: San Tan Ballroom at the Cottonwood Country Club, 25630 Brentwood Dr., Sun Lakes, AZ 85248

Time: Doors open at 6:00 for registration, no-host cocktail bar and open dancing. Sit-down dinner served at 7:00. General dancing and entertainment from 8-11pm.

Pro Show: Silviya & Yavor will delight us with a three-dance Int’l. Latin performance.

Great variety of recorded music provided by deejay Paul Hubbard of My DJ and Dance.

Professional still photos by Diane Haggerson of Diane’s Design Photography will be available in the lobby from 6-7pm only. $10 for a 5x7, including tax & shipping. Bring home your wonderful memories.

·           ARGENTINE TANGO WORKSHOP with HELMUT SALAS. Saturday, August 2, 3-5pm. Cost: $25. You have 3 steps that move in the dance and 7 steps that are the “flash & dash” with infinite combinations and variations. You will learn the 3 moving steps and be introduced to the “flash & dash.” Helmut gives you the material; you make up the mystery. Location: Fatcat Ballroom & Dance Co., 3131 E. ·           ARIZONA DANCE CLASSIC. Aug. 7-10.   New location – Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort, 7677 N 16th Street, Phoenix, 85020. Competition includes ballroom, hustle, swing and country western. All ages are welcome to participate, in either the    pro-am or couples divisions. Dance workshops all week for beginners to advanced level dancers with top instructors; plus, open dancing at night and dedicated ballroom for line dancers and couples. Room rate is $99 per night. ·           FUNDRAISER DINNER DANCES for AMER. HERITAGE ACADEMY BALLROOM DANCE TEAM. Fridays, 6-8pm. Lesson at 6pm, general dancing from 7-8pm.
